Dear Families,
Mission Week will be held in Week 5 of this term with our Mission Day being held on Friday 2 June. This is always a great day where we raise money for local, community and global charities. This year we will be supporting St Vincent De Paul, Catherine House and Catholic Charities.
Each class will be organizing an activity or stall on the day. Students will only be able to use tokens to purchase items and participate in the activities, as we do not take money at the stalls. The purchase of tokens will be available from class teachers on Friday 2 June. Parents may also pre-order tokens leading up to the day using the QKR! App and the teacher will provide the tokens to your child on Mission Day.
Tokens are available in 10c portions with each page of tokens costing $5. All money raised for Mission Week will go to Fred’s Van, Catherine House and Catholic Charities.
St Vincent De Paul Society – Our local Conference in Salisbury work hard to assist people in need and combat social injustice. Members of the Society are people who live out their faith in action by visiting people in their homes to provide support, friendship, material and financial assistance. Those being assisted are often provided with clothing, furniture and household goods. Other services are provided in our local area including Fred’s Van. Fred’s Van is a band of volunteers who take a van out into the local northern areas at night in winter, offering hot food and drinks free of charge. The Society relies on support in the form of volunteers, financial donations and material goods.
Catholic Charities – Charity is at the heart of Living Catholic. Catholic Charities is your umbrella organisation that supports agencies working with the most vulnerable in South Australia. The agencies supported by Catholic Charities are Hutt St Centre, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Our Lady of La Vang & St Patrick’s Special Schools, and Centacare Catholic Family Services.
Catherine House – Catherine House was established in 1988 by the Sisters of Mercy. Their purpose is to provide safe accommodation and a learning environment where women can realise their potential to live successful and independent lives. It is the only provider of supported accommodation in South Australia to women over 21 years. There are 16 houses in the inner city of Adelaide, which can accommodate up to 48 women a night. Over 600 women a year come to Catherine House and to date over 7000 women have used the service since opening.
Leading up to Mission Day, there will be people from these organizations visiting the children.
