Religious Education
Religious Education is at the heart of learning at Holy Family Catholic School. Students deepen their understanding of the Catholic tradition, develop their knowledge of scripture and faith, and explore how Gospel values can be lived in everyday life.
Through prayer, reflection, service, and learning, students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with God and contribute positively to their community.
English
English extends the students’ proficiency in Listening, Reading and Viewing, and Writing (including Grammar and Spelling) to learn about texts, use language strategies and apply this knowledge and understanding to a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.
Mathematics
Students learn the Characteristic ways of thinking and working to enable the development of mathematical ideas, along with the application and communication of these concepts in a wide range of contexts.
Science
Science allows students to develop ways of investigating, describing, understanding the physical and biological world. Students are encouraged to seek and use evidence as the basis for forming ideas and taking actions and to develop a responsible attitude towards the environment.
Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)
Humanities and Social Sciences empowers students to shape change by developing a range of skills to enable them to make informed decisions and solve problems.
The subject provides students with the skills, behaviours and capabilities that will equip them to face challenges in their lifetime and to participate in and contribute to the wellbeing and sustainability of the environment, the economy and society.
Through studying Humanities and Social Sciences, students are given opportunities to develop their ability to question, think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively, make decisions and adapt to change
Technologies
Students develop understandings about people, diversity and the technological world, and learn to question by assessing their own and others’ products, processes and systems.
Health & Physical Education
Studies include Health and Physical Education to promote active and healthy lifestyles, and awareness of Family Life Education and Protective Behaviours to enable students to make informed decisions about issues related to lifelong independent living and their own and others’ wellbeing.
The Arts
The Arts is taught through Music, Drama, and Dance, drawing from a rich variety of cultures. Students learn to play different instruments together as a music group, including the ukulele, Orff ensemble, Boomwhacker ensemble, and percussion band instruments.
In Dance, students explore popular moves from different eras and express themselves through dances they know and love. In Drama, they learn and explore various musicals and have the opportunity to write and dramatise their own plays.
Specialist Language – Spanish
At Holy Family Catholic School, we offer Spanish as our specialist language. All students from reception to year six participate in Spanish lessons in line with the Australian Curriculum Languages learning area. Through language learning students are invited to develop communication skills and a global perspective from an early age.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL-D)

- Why might my child be selected for EAL/D support?
Students who are assessed at the Beginning or Emerging phases of English proficeincy benefit from targeted EAL/D instruction to support access to the Australian Curriculum.
- What does EAL/D support involve?
EAL/D intervention explicitly teaches the language features of Standard Australian English. Weekly sessions will explore grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure, with regular opportunities to practise oral and written language. During each 40 minute session, students will be given opportunities to work independently and collaboratively through a wide range of learning experiences in the EAL/D hub located in the Curiosity building.
